How to File Defamation Against The Press In India ?

If a tabloid furnishes article on a layman that defames his character , image in public to the extent of labeling him as a cheat and demanding his arrest ( and the person tends to be of good character and no criminal record) can he file defamation against the tabloid? On what conditions and what can be the damages be taken from the tabloid and how do one file a defamation.
